According to the WHO, people consume 6.13 liters of pure alcohol per capita every year worldwide. The Republic of Moldova leads the world in alcohol consumption at 18.22 liters per capita . The Republic’s consumption was split almost evenly between beer, wine, and spirits with wine taking a narrow lead.
Of the top ten countries in the world by consumption, all were in Europe and 9 out of 10 are located in Eastern Europe (including Russia).
